  • Fossildude19 changed the title to Big Brook

Nice finds. You seem to be getting better at IDs. There are still a couple different species mixed in in some of the pics.

Thanks.  I know I get mixed up with the teeth with cusplets.  Because of placement in the mouth it could be either type of mackerel or goblin.  I will get there evenually

The good habit to take is to name the entire name (genus + species) at the first quotation so that everyone understands, especially the uninitiated to sharks.

I guess the S. of S. texanus means Scapanorhynchus, the S. of S. Kauai is Squalicorax kaupi. But for the C of C. Samhammeri I give my tongue to the cat ! (French idiome I suppose). Does C. appendiculata mean Carcharias ?

The rule is to quote the entire name the first time in a post, and then only after that we can reduce the gender name to its initial ;)

I haven't been out hunting in quite awhile, and Big Brook is such an enjoyable place. Thanks for the photos. I'll have to get back there this spring. I'd go today if I were closer! I miss it. I'm happy you were able to get there. You've got some nice looking teeth in that lot. I hope you can get back there soon.

Start the day with a smile and get it over with.

Nice looking finds! Not too many of us north-eastern folks venture out this time of year. I've gotta get over to Big Brook one of these days.

First pic: you got some sand tigers and possibly an Archaeolamna mixed in

Third pic: middle- Scapanorhynchus juvenile, bottom center- Enchodus

Fourth pic: bottom left- Scapanorhynchus,

bottom right- Carcharias

Fifth pic: modern, probably deer

Sixth pic: belemnite phragmacone, unidentifiable gastropods, probably concretion/need better pics

Eighth pic: top-concretion, bottom- probably concretion but could be Anomoeodus tooth, need to see other side

9-11 pics all look like concretions

Thanks as always for the great feedback!  Deep down I knew pics 9-11 was not anything. Wishful thinking. Here is better pic of my little m&m CED46466-C015-4B84-ADCF-DE4795C5D3A6.jpeg.3032ebc793eec6832adca1ba96a9d1ed.jpeg73E8828A-2EB9-47B2-A6DD-51349771506D.jpeg.cfbe4b6895d3c7d01d327d0aa585b4e3.jpeg

Really cool site, definitely on my to-do list if i ever visit NJ.

I read there was a rule though that you are only allowed to take 5 fossils per person per trip? Is that not true?

There is that rule but no one follows it.

Hahaha ok then. It does seem like a rather silly rule.
