old colorado fossil site

As a young kid - in the late 60s - we went fossil collecting not too far from Denver (where my parent's friends lived).  I think we paid but I always thought it was a state park or something.  I collected fossil leaves like the attached.  Does anyone know the spot?

Thanks

Likely Florissant, Co.  There's a National Monument and also a private quarry near-by where one can hunt for a fee.  Google it and you'll find a lot of detail.  I'll bet that's what you remember.

There is a major plant fossil site at Castle Rock, close to the interstate, but it is an important research site and off limits now.  It may have been accessible when you were a kid.

However if it was a park (or near a park) and you paid, grandpa is probably right and you were at Florissant.  The good news is, you can still collect at a private quarry there for a fee.

Yes I think it was the Colorado Petrified Forest, which is now part of the national monument (since 1969).

Thank you
