Further evidence for the prosecution's case.  Put that shovel away.  The hole is getting too deep!  :D

Some more pictures would help but if I were to guess I would say a metarsal or vert and possibly a phalanx.

Also, I’ll think you’ll find it’s a very rare species of idiot. :default_rofl:

Looks like possibly some type of wrist bone of a large mammal maybe.

its possible, the beds where layed down near the estuary of a river, however mammal material is very rare from abbey wood therefore its highly unlikely that its mammal, trionyx fresh water turtles and crocodiles are the most common large(ish) vertebrates found here so that s why i put these here it cant be shark or fish as it was a spawning ground so mostly young animals where found here, why the teeth are so small. @Pterygotus i think has made some pretty good guesses though a definitive id is unlikely @KingSepron

The scale would be dangerously close to tipping the other way if it was found near a rail crossing. I think it must be buildup of material from the brakes that gets knocked off.

Looks a bit like this.

I’ll be honest. That texture is screaming sandstone rock at me; Not bone. I think the shape is suggestive, but texture is all wrong. Someone who’s more familiar with the area can correct me if that’s the way preserve at Abby Wood.

Mark.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

Didn't have to. The original post does the job just fine.

It's what I was referring to.
