Trip to the Triassic

Last weekend I went to the south, to the area of Chrzanów - I have tried before twice to get to the Płaza quarry, but it is impossible during the week, as it is an operating facility, so I needed to visit it on the weekend :)

The weather was beautiful - it felt almost like spring. Looking at the pictures you would not tell it's the middle of winter here:

The rocks look a little bit like in Solnhofen, there are also a lot of them with pretty dendrites:

Here are some of the finds:

a large plate with some kind of clams

The next day I went to the abandoned quarry in Pogorzyce - it is much smaller and the only "fresh" rocks come from the cracking walls, nevertheless I managed to find a few interesting fossils.

A tooth? It's really tiny - app. 3 mm.

Again, probably some kind of bone?

This is most probably also a piece of bone - it has the same pinkish shade as the other two fragments:

I'm really happy with all the finds - I added quite a few specimens to my Triassic collection :thumbsu:

Great finds!

What is the approximate time span for the formations?

Thanks :)

It's late Triassic.

Thanks for sharing, Oh Medrzec Member of the Month.:D

It's always nice to see Triassic adventures and finds, as i don't have very much from the period.

Nice location photos and some good finds too, I feel.

It's my pleasure - though I don't really feel like "Mędrzec" :P (wiseman in English).

This is the closest Triassic location for me - more than 330 km away from Warsaw, so my collection from this age is not big, either. And I'm overjoyed with everything I brought back :)

I enjoyed your picks!  Really cool.

Thanks :) This is the first year with absolutely no snow at all - which is sad on one hand, but on the other - I can go fossil hunting :megdance:

Opalised fossils are the best: a wonderful mix between paleontology and mineralogy!

Q. Where do dinosaurs study?

A. At Khaan Academy!...

Nice to make some finds, eh? That first quarry looks like it's been operating for a long time.

:i_am_so_happy: The quarry was opened in 1887.
