This was excavated at Baculite Mesa in Pueblo CO a few years ago. We were given a possible identification of it being a fossilized juniper. Any other input or verification would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

It looks like a limb cast. It may be similar enough to identifiable pieces to infer the ID in some way, but the most diagnostic features haven't been preserved.

When you make the apparently cut face (third photograph) wet, does this help bring out any internal structure? Will be challenging, but if so you could try to come to an ID using a hand lens and a reference database like that of InsideWood: https://insidewood.lib.ncsu.edu/

Here's what I came up with. I completely forgot about wetting the pieces I've submitted for inquiry. Thank you for the reminder and thank you for the link to do some investigating and learning on my own!
