Lizardcannon
Hello all! I joined this forum today after finding the fossil shown in the photo. It jumped out at me while we were skipping rocks along the Harpeth River just SE of Franklin, TN. Is this a shark tooth or am I nuts? Whatever it is, it's clearly seen better days - so I understand if an ID is just not feasible. The shape seems right but the texture gives me pause. I've always been one to pick up cool rocks and fossils, but I know little-to-nothing about their actual names/classifications (yet).
Tidgy's Dad
Just two different layers of sedimentary strata eroded into a suggestive shape, i think. Sorry, but hello, and welcome to the forum from Morocco. 1 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
caldigger
Not a shark tooth I'm afraid. This looks to be a bit of rock, perhaps some differential weathering of the layers.
Lizardcannon
Ah, confirmed my suspicion. Thanks anyway!

Keep on looking and picking up anything that is interesting. We'll help you ID it here. We have lots of ID junkies on this forum and Tennessee has lots of fossils, so go for it. Mark. Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
