Becky Benfer
I believe it’s a flint core because it feels really soft and smooth. I love it’s look but when I look at the end of it there’s a golden color (please tell me it’s gold)! I’m sure it’s not .... haha... it won’t wash off or scratch off easily. Any ideas? Thanks for your help! Found in Ohio in a field ,in North central area.

Huntonia
More focused pictures would help but I think you're just looking at sediment attached to a water worn rock of some kind.
Becky Benfer
I’ll try to focus in on it closer. I found it in a field. It has been cleaned- it’s not dirt.

Fossildude19
I'm not seeing anything fossil wise here. Looks like a different layer of matrix that adhered to a mineral veined rock. Sorry. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Ludwigia
It's definitely not fossil rather mineralogical. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/
Spoons
Rock specimen looks a lot like red radiolarian chert. Forms from celebration of siliceous ooze of radiolarian exoskeletons, AKA marine snow. Ive attached a picture of radiolarian chert for reference. I’m not sure what is on the bottom though. Your rock specimen appears to cleave in a similar way as to what you would expect chert to behave like. Stuff I find here usually has White quartz veins, but yours appear to be dark grey to black in coloration. So maybe it’s not chert?
