Shark teeth from Morroco

Recommended Posts

Hey there!

So I have these fossil teeth from Morroco Eocene, (Khourighba, to be precise), and the one that handed them to me said they are Eocene in age. However, I think they look like Hastalis, an species from the Neogene. Can you please help me out?

Thanks in advance!

  • Fossildude19 changed the title to Shark teeth from Morroco

The top left is almost certainly a hastalis, but I am not sure about the others. I have never seen these colours from Morocco.

I agree, I think they may be from somewhere else like the US or some other location. I think most of them look like makos (Isurus hastalis) but I’m no expert.

I agree, they are certainly not from the moroccan phosphate deposits. These shark teeth are from somewhere else and are Miocene-Pliocene.

Look very similar to teeth we find in Eastover deposits on the Potomac River in Maryland and Virginia, U.S.A..

Strongly doubt there is any North African origin associated with these teeth.
