Pterygotus

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Here is a fossil I found earlier which I think is a scute. Am I right? If so, what did it belong to? It was found in the forest marble formation of Dorset, England and is bathonian, Jurassic in age. It measures 2 by 1 cm. in the last photo, it is the bottom right. Also does anyone know what the fish tooth belonged to. (Middle bottom).

thanks in advance

I think you're right about it being a scute. I'm by no means an expert so can't really say if it's from a crocodile or not.

The round tooth might be a Semionotiformes tooth but I can't really tell from here. My suggestion is probably wildly off though.

It might be a skull plate of a fish (maybe Dapedium) but it's a bit worn and the pictures isn't the best ...
