Nicholas
ScienceDaily (Nov. 19, 2009) — Researchers from Stony Brook University Medical Center in New York have confirmed that Homo floresiensis is a genuine ancient human species and not a descendant of healthy humans dwarfed by disease. Using statistical analysis on skeletal remains of a well-preserved female specimen, researchers determined the "hobbit" to be a distinct species and not a genetically flawed version of modern humans. Find it Here! In my opinion the Hobbit derived from an early migration of Homo erectus, and in the new environment diversity and natural selection occurred. Since other migrations came later, or went elsewhere the lack of interbreeding with other Homo erectus eventually lead to a new species.
Roz
Fascinating stuff! I also read an older article that says that Homo floresiensis lived with pygmy elephants. I didn't realize there were any... Going to do a search on them. Welcome to the forum!

People are shocked to learn we have pygmy versions of large animals even today like Pygmy hippos
