Hi all,

we found way we hope is a fossil today in Lyme Regis. Does anyone know what we have found, if and how we can remove the outer layer to reveal what is hopefully a lovely fossil inside.

best wishes

Tim

Can we see it side on, please?

It may be an ammonite covered in pyrite.

I'm sure, as Tidgy's Dad is suggesting, that this is an ammonite completely covered with pyrite or marcasite. They are not uncommon on that stretch of the coast.

And I don't think anything can be done about it, I'm afraid. :(
