GeschWhat
Since I couldn't go out to dig for fossils, I decided to go on a micro dig. Today's dig was in a coprolite fragment from the Oligocene. Prior to excavation, the broken face of the coprolite looked like this. You can see a little bit of bone peeking through. After about an hour of excavation under 40X magnification, I uncovered what I think is a rodent tooth and possibly a toe bone and claw??? What do you think? Does anyone out there know their Rupelian rodents? Grinding Surface of the tooth: Side view showing roots: Small toe bone and claw or an fractured toe/foot bone? Is fossil poop cool or what??? 7 Lori www.areallycrappystory.com/fossils www.facebook.com/fossilpoo

GeschWhat
That is a beauty @ricardo! Did you have to "excavate" it or was it exposed on the surface? Do you have a photo of the whole coprolite? Lori www.areallycrappystory.com/fossils www.facebook.com/fossilpoo

Hello GeschWhat, The tooth is on the surface. There is another, in a worse state, at another point in the coprolite. There are also fragments of vertebrae. It is a fragment of a coprolite. Tomorrow I'll take some pictures with natural light. 23 minutes ago, GeschWhat said: That is a beauty Thank you And...this cartoon is great!
