I belive it is purely geological yes.

Mother Nature has a real talent for sculpting rock that resembles life forms.

The minerals in rock often expand in volume as they weather. There is not enough evidence to say with confidence, but it could be a bit of the surface of a larger rock that was sloughed off as a result of a related process.
