Jen Marie
Hello, I have been finding all sorts of neat rocks and marine fossils in the desert outside of Yuma, Arizona where the Colorado river had once flowed into a large ocean. Are these fossilized coral or sponges? I would appreciate an ID on the specimens, or speculations as to what they are? Thank you.
Notidanodon
i see one that definitely resembles a coral bottom left first photo, top left looks like a cross section of a crinoid columnal the other three in the fisrt pic might be sponger but the others in the 2nd photo look like a hematite formation
HansTheLoser
I agree with Will, but a closer view is necessary to be avle to say more.
Shamalama
I agree with Will that the lower left specimen in the first photo is fossilized coral. The rest look like desert weathering features on the rocks. More pics and clear closer views would help. -Dave __________________________________________________ Geologists on the whole are inconsistent drivers. Jen Marie
Thank you for your info! Here are some better photos of the gray specimen that was ID to be maybe part of a crinoid? I can't find any other pics of this on google? I have several different sizes of it, all the same gray coloring. *As for showing better photos of the other ones, I'll have to wait until I can use my Macro lens next month. Again, found in the desert near Yuma, AZ. top view specimen approx 2" x 2" side view Bottom view Assortment of different sizes, same gray coloring Edited March 30, 2020 by Jen Marie
