Mw17
Wood fossil found at the Trent River, near Comox BC, Canada. Trent River fossils date around 80 million years (so I’ve read), interested to see if anyone can identify exactly what type of tree/plant this came from. Have always thought it was bamboo, but I really don’t know what I’m talking about. Please let me know if you need more photos. Rockwood
I think conifer would be a reasonable guess. It would need to be thin sectioned and examined under a microscope (by an expert) to be more certain though.
Mw17
Thanks for the input @Rockwood, I am interested in the bamboo like shape of the specimen. Does the shape give some clues perhaps?

The growth rings in large conifers sometimes delaminate and end up looking sort of like little tiles.
