You may want to wait on the "grinding" until your photos are posted.  Just in case someone has a better/easier way.  You don't want to remove something that should be kept.  Just a suggestion.

The photo is much too blurry to see what you have.

Try placing the item down on a stable surface to photograph.  Holding it in hand tends to cause slight movement which leads to out of focus pics.

Where was this found?  Location is a key ingredient for establishing a proper ID.

I am not seeing bone texture or bilateral symmetry, no less any kind of skull morphology. It looks like a rock.

Let's call in some dino experts:

Sorry,

Not a dinosaur, not a skull, not a fossil.

It might have a vague resemblance to what you'd think a skull looks like. But it lacks any and all structures one would expect from a real skull.

What this is, is just a rock with suggestive shapes.

We humans are great/terrible at recognising shapes and patterns. We're great at it because we can find patterns when they are really hard to find, (something that computers cannot do yet for example). But at the same time we're terrible at patterns because we see them even when they are not there at all. This phenomenon is called pareidolia. It's common and happens to literally everyone. It's the reason we see faces in a street sign or the rocks on Mars. You say you see an orbital bone and a nostril. I see exactly what you mean. But these are nothing more than suggestive shapes. It doesn't fit any known dinosaur. There doesn't seem to be any bilateral symmetry. And most importantly, the structure is all wrong. Nothing about the surface of this resembles bone at all.

But don't let that get you down. There's a lot more interesting stuff to find. Think of it as a learning experience.

Oh, no it's not.  There is nothing fossily about this, even less dinosaury.  Trust me, I collect a lot of dino material from here in Wyoming.

I am only saying this once.  We get a lot of people here who show us their fossils and are positive about what they have and refuse to believe seasoned pros when we tell them their find is not what they think it is.  So, please, trust us.

I see nothing hear to indicate fossilized bone, also a skull is made up of many elements such as the maxilla, dentary, nasal, jugual, surangular ect a skull would never be a solid ball like what you have.

I have no idea about artifacts just to clarify but I dig up dinosaur bones and teeth, (when we are not on lock down) so I have first hand experience on what fossils look like trust me when I say you don't have anything that is a fossil here.

I’m sorry, I’m not the best at artifacts, but this doesn’t look like a tomahawk at all or any kind of tool/weapon.  It’s just an oddly shaped rock.

Understand your not the best at artifacts I found this beer bottle too perfect specimen.  Or is it oddly shaped glass. I’m not jumping to conclusions mind you

Ok of your three pictures.

1) rock.

2)rock. My brother in law was Native American and both made and collected Native American tools and weapons. And he taught me a lot about them...

3) beer bottle.
sorry

And sadly this is a common response. We often get people posting obvious rocks insisting they have a rare fossil with all sorts of features that almost never fossilise in the first place. And when confronted with reality, they double down.

Many of us handle fossils literally every day, we range from amateurs to professionals. And many have years of experience.

I don't mean to be rude. But you are wrong. What you're seeing are suggestive shapes. Not any type of feature that actually indicates a real fossil or skull. Many here have already said as much and others will say the same thing. It's a rock, nothing more.

There's no need to be sarcastic either. We're all genuinely trying to help here.

If you don't want to listen, why did you post this here in the first place?

  • Fossildude19 locked this topic

Well, yet another person who knows what they have, asks for help, and then won't accept the answers given by people who collectively have a few hundred years of fossil experience. :(

Topic is locked, as nothing further can be learned or gained by debate. We just have to agree to disagree.

@Byron3 Please take your items to a local museum or university to have them looked at.

We wish you well.
