Mammal tooth

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I recently found this tooth in some material i collected last month and I’m pretty sure it’s a tooth, maybe mammal. Can anyone ID it to a species or genus level? It was found in the bathonian forest marble formation of Dorset, UK. Thanks :).

To my eyes, it looks more like a mineral specimen of some sort.

You could be right though the rocks this was found in doesn’t particularly have many minerals and this specimen also appears to have enamel.

I can only go by the photos provided. To me this looks very similar to uvite tourmaline that is found in the Adirondacks, of New York. With the exception of the shape.

The texture and appearance looks like fish bone to me.
