jonandrew20
Found this large rock fallen from a Jurassic scarred cliff face I wondered what could have caused the usual marks?
jpc
looks like lepidodendron, but that is not at all Jurassic.
Tidgy's Dad
Heysham is part of Morecambe Bay and the rocks there range from the Millstone Grit (Upper Carboniferous) through to the Triassic. This is probably from the Heysham Harbour Sandstone and is Upper Carboniferous from what used to be called the Millstone Grit Series, so it could be Lepidodendron. 7 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend. jonandrew20
Thanks very useful to know. I live local to the cliff face and notice lots of different markings but this one is the most striking. Amazing to think how long ago this was created.
dhiggi
We find similar looking stigmaria in the local river but always well worn. Nothing as beautiful as that; I hope it wasn’t too big to take home...
