jnicholes
so, for those of you who do not know, I am a sumi e artist. Sumi e Is a Japanese ink art. I basically Drew one of my fossils in this style, and I would like an opinion. Does it look like a Phareodus testis? It was actually quite fun making a fossil on paper.

It is cut off on both ends in your photograph.
jnicholes
Oh. I see now. Well, I ran out of room on the paper. It's not a full picture. That's what I've got.
Kane
Nice brushstroke work. I took the liberty of moving your topic to our Paleo Re-Creations thread where your artistry will be at home with some of our other paleo-artists. ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer

Bobby Rico
Ok, the brush work is really suiting for the subject matter. You should definitely do more fossil art works. Great start indeed.
jnicholes
@Bobby Rico thank you very much for the compliment. I'm going to figure out another fossil I can go off of, then I'll post another painting when it's done. Jared

Sumi e is a Japanese ink and brush art done on rice paper. Maybe later, I'll post a picture of my set and a video of how I paint it.
Mahnmut
Hi Jared, nice drawing. I think Sumi-e is not an artform for me to try, because I heavily depend on the possibility to redo and change every aspect of what I make. So, after stating that I could not do this myself, you asked for opinion: I had a look at your video and others about sumi-e as well, the timing of every stroke seems to be of importance there. In the other videos I saw it seems that the ink was even more diluted than yours so that it makes more of a difference how long they keep the brush in one spot to achieve contrast. Otherwise I like the fish. Looking forward to the next ones.
