Genicularia vertebralis

DE&i

Recommended Posts

Genicularia vertebralis bodies are formed of ringed segments. Worms’ soft bodies generally don’t fossilise, though traces of worms do fossilise. These are pieces of the calcareous tubes secreted by the marine worms. And I've posted a few topics on Genicularia here on TFF over the year's. I'm now looking more into the variations of tubes you can find, so I thought you would like to see a few.

Name: Genicularia vertibralis

Age: Oxford Clay, Jurassic

Here is a photo of a rock which I have been told was created by the process you described. I will pass along. Found on the Niagara Escarpment, Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada.

Here is my example. Found at the the same location, given to me in trade many years ago by our esteemed member John Brewer.

@Tidgy's Dad they really are a joy to work with.

@Darktooth  it's a cool looking design isn't it.

@EscarpmentMary  that's certainly a busy looking piece with lots of creature activity.

@caldigger  they really are a photogenic fossil, I like your example with the tell-tale "globose bullae" design.

Great images, Darren. I've never looked closely at these. I used to have a few but my mother gave most of my childhood/teenage collection to the school she taught at so at least they're not wasted!
