Ichthyostega? Catskill mountains in ny

As always, I have no clue! My first instinct was Ichthyostega -

I found it on the southern edge of the catskills mountains.

Any ideas?

Likely a mineral crust or other similar geologic process. 

Do you know the geology of the location?

It's an oxidized iron mineral, probably an iron sulphate/ sulphide as the yellow is residual sulfur.

It's a concretion. 

No bone texture. The rock doesn't even look like sedimentary rock.

Ichthyostega would have been really cool but it does not look like bone to me. This looks like an iron stone concretion of some sort. Note the rusty color.  I can certainly see how it could suggest something else.

Timothy, my friend, you are relatively new to the forum so you may not know us that well yet. 

We are not  like some of the social media out there where people bring their flame-throwers and take out their anxieties on faceless enemies in cyberspace.  We are a "gentle, friendly" group of folks looking to support each other through our common interest in fossils. 

If you have misunderstood our purpose and are looking for a place to rant, there are many options out there.  If, however, you are compelled by the atmosphere we offer, feel free to set down the flame-thrower and join in our group. 

As I said, you are relatively new to the group, so we can understand that you may not have had the time to get to know us.  We are willing to give you another chance to change the image you've projected above.  After all, it's still plenty early.

BTW, what you have shown us does not appear to be a fossil to me either.
