Jaw piece with broken tooth?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. Found this today while near Ladonia State Park. I originally thought it might be the piece of a jawbone with a broken tooth. Clean up and not so sure now. Any help would be appreciated. Any chance on a species if it is a piece of jawbone?

The files are a bit small to see the texture well, but I think this looks more like a concretion in regular stone.

I'm going to see if I can take some better pics. I am getting fairly decent at the concretions and normal stones at NSR. This looks more like bone to me.

New pics...

Not sure about this one actually.

I wouldn't rule out bone at this point.

It has the texture of NSR fish bone pieces I've seen, I think it could actually be a fish jaw. See what @JarrodB thinks

Cool find and I wouldn't rule out fish! My vote would be a small section of an xiphactinus jaw. I have found a few there that look similar though yours may be a bit more worn. The curvature of the specimen also looks like mine.

100% fish jaw section. Not enough to tell what kind of fish.

I do some similarities with the pictures Titan added. Premaxilla I do not know. Thoughts on that?

I really appreciate everyone's help.
