With the english Wiki page, the Prodeinotherium species are missing :)

I think this here would be the full list (at the moment)

  • European Species:
  • Deinotherium giganteum Kaup, 1829
  • Deinotherium levius Jourdan, 1861
  • Deinotherium proavum Eichwald, 1835
  • Prodeinotherium bavaricum von Meyer, 1831
  • Prodeinotherium cuvieri Kaup, 1832
  • African Species:
  • Deinotherium bozasi Arambourg, 1947
  • Prodeinotherium hobleyi Andrews, 1911
  • Asian Species:
  • Deinotherium indicum Falconer, 1868
  • Prodeinotherium pentapotamiae Falconer, 1868
  • Prodeinotherium sinense (Qiu, Wang, Li, Deng & Sun, 2007)

The main difference between Deinotherium and Prodeinotherium is it's size. Prodeinotherium are in general smaller than Deinotherium. On top are differences with the bones and teeth. But it is still unclear if that makes Prodeinotherium ist own Genus or not.

However it seems that most recent papers (from 2000 and on) list them as seperate Genus. So it might be valid today? Does anyone has more info?

You might want to look at these free english papers:

Good paper on an individual find of a P. bavaricum near where I live in Bavaria :)

Paper regarding teeth

And this one from 2014 is highly recommended! Quote: " This specimen from Gratkorn confirms the osteological differences in thepostcrania between Prodeinotherium and Deinotherium.”
