Megalodon from my creek

blizzardstorm06

Recommended Posts

Scientific Name: Carcharocles megalodon

Geologic Age: Miocene clay

Location: Southern Maryland, USA

Date:  April 19, 2020

I love searching our creek for interesting finds.  Last summer we started discovering large fossilized scallops.  Then recently I started finding various shark teeth and ray plates.  I was thrilled to reach down and pull up a megalodon from the creek for the first time.  It is about 3.5 inches long, slightly longer on the other side.  My parents helped me document this find here, it's our first time posting and we think this is the right place for the contest, if not, we are sorry!  :)

Wow! Great looking tooth!

i think you meant to post it in the find of the month category though. @digit or @Fossildude19 or one of the mods will probably be along and move it soon enough.
welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the Fossil Forum!  That is a very nice megalodon tooth!   You are indeed fortunate to have a site that yields such fossils on your property.  If you post photos of some of the scallops and other shells, people here may be able to tell you the geological formation and age for your finds.

Welcome to The Forum!  It is an awesome find, but unfortunately, new members are not allowed to join and enter the contest.  Make a few more posts as you look around TFF, and hopefully you will find something to qualify for next month's FOTM contest.  :)

That is awesome!  What great looking tooth.  First, I would do about anything right now to have "our creek" in the backyard!  Second, I would do anything anything to find a meg!

Wonderful tooth.

@JohnJ how senior does someone have to be to enter?

@Ash

They need to transition from the New Members group to the Regular Members group.  It is a small threshold that helps keep the contest honest.

My back yard would quickly look like a strip mine if I found a tooth like that in it...  Beats any I ever found hands down!

Excellent find! Welcome to the forum. Don't be discouraged. Make a few more posts to become a regular member and just keep searching your creek to find an even better one which you can then enter next month :).

:)  Sorry, I'm still getting the hang of this forum...  This is what my dad and I found yesterday!  I will get some pics with measurements.  Thanks for letting us be involved, I love everything about nature, fossils, rocks, so this place really rocks!  Thank you for your encouragement!  :)
