Randyw
Hi everyone. Before he had his accident caldigger sent me these pictures hoping I could help him identify it. We were never able to in over a month of researching and that is bothering me. Do any of you have any ideas. I just thought it would be nice if we could fulfill this request for him. I personally think he will know if we do... thank you.

Randyw
The only info he could give me was he got it with a bunch of bones and skull pieces from the white river deposits...
PaleoNoel
Could it be the edge of a large turtle or tortoise shell? Maybe a peripheral scute? When i first saw it I had no idea as I didn't read the tag, thinking it was something from Shark Tooth Hill, but seeing as it's from the white river fm in SD that's my best guess. Randyw
We wondered about turtle but we couldn’t find anything to match it...
ParkerPaleo
Turtle seems about the only thing that makes sense. I'm confused by it as well. Maybe alligator scute or something? Tough one.
Renaud
I think it's a neural arch of a mammal vertebra. In my previous work, I prepared many dorsal vertebrae of Sirenian (Dugongidae - Kaupitherium), there is a strong resemblance to the neural arcs that I have glued on the centrums.
