Next up, though, will be a Mioplosus. All those scales take quite a bit of time, but I do find it a relaxing endeavor. Stay tuned. Bobby Rico
They are beautiful and I like your style of painting ( the use of colour and form) I find them really interesting almost like old Illustrations plates in a encyclopaedia , wonderful work.

Oh, thank you so much, Bobby. I've always loved those old illustrations. I have a couple of old "fish and game" reports from about 1905 with beautiful fish illustrations, in color (or colour, for my British friends) by Sherman Foote Denton, and I have a two-volume 1859 report on British Fishes with wonderful black and white illustrations. I'll have to take a few photos and post them here to show you. 1 Start the day with a smile and get it over with.

Wrangellian
Mike has given me the go-ahead to post my processed image of the Knightia which I wanted to print up to accompany my specimen (I don't have any specimens of the other ones he's illustrated)
Pagurus
I finally finished this Mioplosus. I still need to get my scanner working again for a more accurate representation of my painting. I find it real hard to let go of a painting and conclude that it's done, but I've got to stop eventually. Here is my current version of a Mioplosus. (Now that I've photographed it I'm seeing a few areas I still want to work on a little. Just a little more. Stop, Michael, Stop!) 13 Start the day with a smile and get it over with. Kane
Mike, this is [compliments redacted on account of artist’s modesty]. This is a work to be proud of. I will remain in awe over your sixth sense with colour. 1 ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer

grandpa
You have captured very well its ancestral relationship to the modern Perciformes. Now I'm going to have to go out and buy a Mioplosus fossil plate to go with your beautiful rendering of it. Excellent job once again! 2

I think your edited version is actually a bit closer to the original than the photo I posted. The green in my photo is too bright. The original painting has a bit more brown too. Of course everything looks a little different on all the different monitor and phone screens anyway. Along with quite a few Mioplosus fossil photos and my own rather poor prep of a Mioplosus specimen I took some guidance from a few walleye and pike-perch photos. I'd like to get a Phareodus myself. I have at least one of the others I've painted so far, but it would be fun to have some new fish. The Knightia card you made from my illustration really came out well. I'm glad you posted it. Start the day with a smile and get it over with. Pagurus
I'd like to share a painting I recently finished of a Green River fish plate collected and prepped by @RJB Ron shared the fish fossil and a bit of his prep process here. I tried turning the clock back about 52 million years or so, and here's my result: I used this photo Ron sent me as a model: It was an enjoyable and educational undertaking.
