Is this mammal tooth a fossil ?

Hey All,

I found this tooth in some micro material from a creek in Castle Hayne NC. Was wondering if it was fossilized or not. Other material found were really worn small sharks teeth from the Eocene Castle Hayne Formation.  Thanks.

It looks like it... a canine tooth.  I don't know if modern teeth in that area get stained brown but if not, you have an Eocene mammal tooth.  Bravo.  If it too heavy for your collection, feel free to send it to me.  : )

I am not sure if teeth get stained brown,  but everything else does. Lots of tanic acid  ( I believe they call it) in the NE Cape Fear and adjoining creeks. Maybe Plax or Al Dente can clarify that.

Looks like a racoon tooth to me. Probably modern.
