The KMart Display case

Recommended Posts

All the local Kmarts went the way of the dinosaur and went extinct last year. I bought a couple display cases for $40 each. I brought it home and just a month ago filled it up with fossils. The wiring was cut from the store in a hurry, so I just left it as is. I ordered a plug and rewired it this morning. The light makes a huge difference. :)

That looks great! I have a couple of very similar retail display cases that I use. I’ll have to look at adding a light.

Looks pretty good - no frills, very open and nothing impedes the fossils. Just the right size and shape for the light, etc. I like a fancy old wooden display case but the spare modern commercial types are definitely made to do the job of displaying merchandise. 'Form Follows Function'.

Somehow I'm never in the right place at the right time when such things happen around here...

Very nice display! I've found that if you look long enough, display cases do pop up for cheap. It just takes a lot of patience and sometimes downright luck.

You struck gold....  Those make great displays.  I've tried to find one for a reasonable price over the years and had no luck.  Great find and even better buy!!

@cngodles You sure did get a good deal there. But be careful with those glass shelves and don't place anything too heavy on them. I had to learn the hard way about that. How thick are they?

Nicely displayed! You lucked out on a great cabinet!

Looking forward to meeting my fellow Singaporean collectors! Do PM me if you are a Singaporean, or an overseas fossil-collector coming here for a holiday!

I’m thinking somewhere between 1/8 and 1/4 of an inch. It was the display case used back in Sporting Goods, so I’m sure a large number of heavy items were displayed in and passed over it. :)

  • 5 weeks later...

Very nice display! And with the seat and moody lighting, it really reminds me of a museum.
