Presquile park fossil day

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. On the long weekend me my daughter and my partner went out to the rock beach near by to do some fossil hunting and this is what we found. I am new to collecting and would appreciate some advice on cleaning them up.

Looks like some nice gastropod molds with a possible coral in Picture 2. (Could be just calcite, but a view of the left side might clear that up.)

Not much left to be done in the way of cleaning.

The water and sand have worn them down pretty well.

Agreed, mostly gastropod (snail) molds with a coral or more likely (considering the area) a bryozoan colony in photo 2.  The bedrock in the area around Presquile Provincial Park is Ordovician.

BTW I'm fairly certain that it is not legal to remove any natural objects from the park.

Didn’t realize that it was not legal to do so. I will drop them back where I found them
