Dino1
Hey guys, I saw this listed as a ornithopod footprint. Do you guys think it’s real? Also what dinosaur could it be? Thanks!
LordTrilobite
Looks more like theropod to me. The rule of thumb is that if the print is wider than long it's ornithopod and if it's longer than wide then it's theropod. 1 Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite
dinosaur man
I agree with @LordTrilobite it’s a Theropod, but not sure how real it could be.
Troodon
Do you have a locality where this is from and more complete photos of print on the slab.. Footprint are not identified to a dinosaur but ichnotaxon has seen on the attached illustration
Dino1
@Troodon it’s from Massachusetts, sorry the forum wouldn’t allow me to insert another pic
Troodon
Thanks red matrix is odd from there. You can add as many photos as you need in the reply section
Fossildude19
This actually looks more like a painted cast, to me. I am very skeptical of this item. As Troodon indicated, the color of the matrix is wrong - and the "matrix" is shiny. The prints from Massachusetts are in red to reddish brown shales, sandstones, and mudstones. I would skip it, unless the price is very cheap. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." LiamL
It looks very shiny, could be coating in something or a replica. 1 Yorkshire Coast Fossil Hunter
Kurufossils
Most definitely a replica, I swear I've seen this before available as so.
Dino1
Thanks guys! I was gonna buy it but after seeing your responses I have decided not to. This forum really helped me save money.
