What is the physical size of the tooth?

From (left to right) the point of the tooth to right side of the root it is 10mm.

That is smaller than I would expect from a Hemipristis symphyseal. However as @MarcoSr says, I also believe it is a shark tooth and most likely a symphyseal.

@sixgill pete@MarcoSr@Al DenteYou all have provided amazing feedback.  Thank you so much.  I am labeling as a symphyseal possible hemi or sandtiger. Now if i can find what fish those croc- like teeth come from, that would be great.  Cant find anything.  I have to realize that not everything can be identified.:)

This type of fish teeth are somewhat common in Lee Creek matrix. They could be from another member of the Sparidae family. They also are similar to some Labridae (wrasse) or Merluccidae (hakes) teeth and even possibly goosefish. I keep mine in a small container labelled fish tooth undet.

Here are a few pics of my Cetorhinus sp. from Lee Creek Similar but you can see the differences from your tooth.

Just wanted to give an update on my matrix finds.  I started my second pass through of the larger matrix.  Still finding a ton of small shark teeth.  These are some interesting items that I found.  I believe most of it is fish.  Might need some of the experts to take a look. @sixgill pete @MarcoSr @Al Dente Appreciate any feedback.

I believe this is  just a pebble but it really stood out.  I notice on Elasmo that some fish/eels may have this color teeth.  It seems to be more translusant to be a tooth.  I thought I show a pic before I toss it.  Can Amber be found at Lee Creek.  Haha I am all over the place

Second one looks like a fish vert. Third does look like a drm or drum type fish tooth. Fourth is a broken fish vert.

Fifth one looks like shell. The last one not sure. Can you add pics of both ends, straight on.

@sixgill pete  thanks for your he feedback. Here are some extra pics. I did the best I could because they are small.

I think the thinner one on the right is a crab claw. It seems hollow

the one on the left is different

I found another interesting tooth in the matrix over the weekend. It’s about 10mm. It looks completely different than the other 2 fish teeth I have found.  Not really familiar with the various fish teeth so I’m giving up on guessing. I always lean towards croc tooth but I’m never right. Probably because I have never found one. Much appreciation for any feedback.

Thanks for the feedback.  Going to be honest... I had to look that up.  Never found anything like that before.  This matrix has had some really cool things it.

I'm not sure about this tooth. My first thought was that it is from a megamouth shark (Megachasma sp.) Looking at the elasmo picture makes me think it might be cetorhinus. Maybe someone else can comment on what is more definitively.

The tricky thing with Cetorhinus is that the teeth are so variable in morphology.  I have found a number of basking shark teeth in the Sharktooth Hill Bonebed and they can show some variation in shape just in that layer.  In one of the photos it looks like the cutting edge flares out towards towards and at the apex.  That would be an indication of a basking shark tooth and less of one of Hemipristis and sand tigers.  The crown and root of a Hemipristis or sand tiger shark symphyseal tooth tend to be more vertically-oriented.  It's hard to say on that one but I think it still has a chance of being a basking shark too.

@siteseer Thank you for your opinion.  This is the first time I ever went through matrix so I am coming across so many interesting items.  The iphone camera is not really helping with the details needed to help with IDs.  I ordered a digital microscope to take more detailed pictures so hopefully that helps with this and other items.  Thanks again!
