Ichno fossil ID help

hadrosauridae

Recommended Posts

OK, looking for some help with this ID.  I THINK this is a lungfish burrow, but I've never seen any before.

I'm exploring a new property permission for a Permian Vert site.  The reports also describe numerous lungfish burrows, some with the fish still inside, although most are just the trace fossils.  This bit of shale has one every few inches and they are roughly 1" - 1.5" in diameter.  So whats your opinion?

Burrows by their nature can look very similar for very many different producers, if you are fortunate enough to have the maker preserved in situ you are exceedingly lucky. If your burrow matches the overall size and  shape of those with lungfish intact from the same horizon then you can reasonably infer that your one is also a lungfish burrow.
