TheBulldozer
Alright time to nip this in the bud. Scored this wicked little thing on the Withlacoochee near where it meets the Suwannee, I’ve posted it in three other groups online and while I’ve had 30 claims as to it being a worn-down shark tooth, I’ve had an equal amount of disputes. Help me solve this mystery and I’ll upvote all of your posts from here on out. Edit: I put in under my pillow last night hoping to make a quick buck but the Fossil Fairy left me a note telling me to keep it. grandpa
Well, I'm sorry to say that I'm not seeing a fossil here. It looks to me like a VERY suggestively shaped piece of (perhaps) phosphate - - or maybe a river worn Ninja star?
sixgill pete
Not a tooth Not a fossil. Phosphate is a possibility. FossilNerd
Unfortunately, I agree. Looks like something strictly geological and not a fossil. Erosive action from a river (or any source of water) can make all kinds of interesting shapes that trick the eye. 1 The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it. -Neil deGrasse Tyson Everyone you will ever meet knows something you don't. -Bill Nye (The Science Guy)
TheBulldozer
I never thought it was a fossil, I simply allowed my thought processes to be swayed by public opinion Thanks for the answers!! I’m still in love with the rock, since it was enough to fool roughly 30 other fossil hunters ha! I’ve lurked these forums for a couple years, and just now took the liberty of joining. I will be introducing myself soon, but until then want y’all to know that I’m super excited to get more involved in this community and to pick up some knowledge!! Interesting shape, but I can't think what would what would leave a steinkern of that shape.
