Willylock
Found in SouthWestern Pennsylvania. I’ve been told this is probably an Elk Astragalus definitely Bovid. How can I rule out cattle? What are the measurements of an Elk Astragalus?

jpc
elk and bovid are two different families, so it can't be both....
Allosaurus
I can't help you identify the astragalus. But yes as jpc said, bovids are a separate family than what elks are included in. Bovidae includes animals like buffalo, sheep, goats, and cattle (basically cloven hoofed ruminants). Cervidae is the family that includes elk, deer and moose (hoofed ruminants). Antlers are only found on cervids while horns are only found on bovids.
