Bone from the Mooreville Chalk in AL

Recommended Posts

My daughter found this protruding from the Mooreville Chalk formation (upper Cretaceous) in central Alabama.  Unfortunately, it did break when we dug it out but it is otherwise in very good shape.

It looks like it may be shaped like a reptile paddle bone.  Turtle?  Mosasaur?  Something else?  Anyone have any thoughts about id?

I would agree with you, looks to be a paddle bone, I would guess mosasaur.

Here's picture of a paddle from Fossilguy.com
