I'm impressed. Well done. Looks like the hole could have healed over time and left a scar. Its difficult to say what caused it.

 

Observation with most herbivore species they have copious amounts of blood vessels in horns etc. Regeneration of the horn area wouldn't be out of the question.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. Trilo, I’m not sure of my hours spent on this but I would guess 30-40hrs.
