PrehistoricWonders
Hi, I bought this bone unprepared a few weeks ago and was wondering if anyone had any idea of what type of bone it is and what it came from?(it was identified as a T-Rex gastralia by the seller)
dhiggi
Without any indication of size or the location in which it was found I doubt you’ll get much luck. I’d be wary of any item for sale described as T Rex given the effect such ID has on the price
PrehistoricWonders
It was found in the lance formation in Wyoming, and is 12 1/2 inches, that is what it looks like after I prepped it.
Troodon
More views please. Gastral bones of the Trex Sue for you to compare against.

It kind of looks like an upper gastralia. @Troodon @jpcwhat would your guesses be?
PrehistoricWonders
In a couple minutes when I get home I’ll take some more photos.
jpc
I'd need a good view of the left end to see if it might be a rex gastralia.

Here’s some pics of the bone. The first three are the left side the last one is the right side.TIA
jpc
What I was hoping to see is a better view of the proximal end... In the photo troodon posted, notice how the inside ends of all the gastralia flatten out They actually all fit together loosely along the belly. If yours has a flattened out bit on the left end of your photo, then I would say yes. If not, it still could be. I don't know enough about IDing it based on cross section, for example.
