Planko
Hey all. Couple questions. I think I found a pyrite area last time I was out. Couple weeks ago. Has anyone ever found any fossil with pyrite like the ones from England? I also found a large quartz crystal. Is there a quartz vein some where near on on that river? I have found lots of calcite but not quartz.

Planko
I forgot to mention the pyrite, what I think it is, is spread over a single layer. Most of it crumbles when I exposed it.
Planko
Ok, I was able to get the ID for the pyrite from another site. Still curious about the quartz.
Ruger9a
If I remember correctly, the old miners would hunt for quartz veins because it was associated with gold. Just saying.....
JohnJ
If it is quartz, it is not native to the area. There are thousands of ways it could find its way into the North Sulphur River. There are calcite seams in the Ozan Formation that can have large crystals. If you can scratch it with a knife and/or it fizzes in a quick dip in vinegar, then it's calcite.
