Two Urban Fossils

Hi!!

Two mystery fossils on a wall in San Sebastian (Basque Country, Spain). Other fossils in the same rock are Neridea.

In the first photo, I wonder about the little "cells" that can be seen. Is this coral or something?? Looks different from other corals I've seen, and the shape is so strange!

The second photo is a large shell? A rudist? A gastropod?

Thanks for your help!!! :-)

Elizabeth

However, there is no shape which does not conform to a cross section of some rudist. :)

Thanks for the replies!! :-)

So the first photo might also be a rudist, then! But what about those little clustered "cells" going all around the edge? Anybody know what they are? Have you seen similar structures in other rudist fossils??

Thanks!!

Rudists are gregarious, and can be surrounded by juveniles/early/(-ier) ontogenetic stages

Some types of rudists have these structures.

Hi Elizabeth!

These are rudist bivalves cross sections.

As mentioned by Al Dente the "cell" like structures are common in some types of Rudists.
