minnbuckeye
I am undecided if this is fossil or dendritic deposits on a rock. It is from Keokuk limestone, Mississippian.
TqB
I'm fairly sure that's a nice dendroid graptolite, something like Callograptus (or possibly a dendroid bryozoan though it looks carbonaceous). It's not mineralogical. There are cross connections: And apparently thecae: Edited June 28, 2020 by TqB 7 Tarquin

minnbuckeye
Are dendroid graptolites, something like Callograptus, common? I have never seen one before. Locally, some rock strata contain MANY graptolytes , but never anything like this. Were they rooted by the stalk to the floor of the sea? Mike They're generally rare but can be common locally - I guess they're rare there! Yes, they were attached to the sea floor/substrate by a holdfast. 1 Tarquin
