Member of the Month - July 2020 - Jarrod B.

Well, another month gone, and the Summer is starting to take hold. For many, it is a time of vacations, and holidays. That may be a bit different this year, with the pandemic, but I still see people getting out there, and finding fossils. Fossil hunting is a good way to social distance. ;)

With the changing month comes a change in the guard - time to announce July's MotM.

It is with great pleasure that I announce this month's MotM by unanimous staff vote is:

CONGRATULATIONS!

For just about 5 years now, Jarrod has been regaling us with his ever productive trips to the North Sulfur River. (NSR)

His reports feature copious and myriad finds, in situ shots before being picked up, and great close ups of his finds, be they fossils, or Native American artifacts.

Jarrod finds them all. :)  This eagle eyed veteran of the NSR brings us great content fairly regularly.

While he is a man of few words, he lets his excellent photos tell us about his mosasaurs, dart points, axe heads, ammonites and bottle finds in the NSR

An expert on NSR hunting, he adds his knowledge to ID threads as well as general discussions.

Jarrod, thanks for all you bring to the Forum.

Keep it coming, please!

Would you like to say a few words about your journey to fossil hunting and to the Forum?

PS: But don't take my word for this -  If you get a chance, check out his My Growing Collection! topic, and see his amazing finds for yourself!

Well deserved! Before I joined TFF, it was Jarrod's posts in our DPS group that helped me start recognizing my NSR finds (and also inspired me to new levels of fossil-hunting envy). :D

Quite the surprise :) . I've learned so much from this forum over the past five years. My fossil adventures started pretty much the same time I joined the forum. I work offshore and I had a coworker tell me that I could find mosasaur fossils and shark teeth at the North Sulphur River Texas. I took the two hour drive one day to Ladonia Fossil Park. I had no clue what I was doing. On the first bar I looked on I found a perfect mosasaur tooth. I was instantly hooked. I thought man this is easy. Lol it took me six months to find another. I've met some great people and made some life long friends in this hobby. While I was finding fossils I also started to find artifacts and old bottles which peaked my interest in other categories. My collection has really grown over the past five years. I currently have quite a few of my cretaceous fossils on loan to the East Texas Gem And Mineral Society for a summer camp they are having. My rarest find to date is a pterosaur partial limb bone which is the only known example from NSR per Southern Methodist University. I plan to do quite a bit of hunting over the next month so hopefully I'll have some new finds to share with everyone. I'm honored to be a part of such a great group. Everyone please stay safe during these crazy times.
