Hello everyone,

I was out looking for leaf fossils the other day, and found this flower.  I actually found 2 but the other broke :s_cry:.

I was in the Naches Formation of Central Washington.  From what I've read it ranges from 35-40 MYO.

Closest thing I can find for i.d. is Florissantia Quilchenensis.  Anyone able to confirm or have an alternate i.d.?

I appreciate your assistance.

Chris

WOW!  Thank you all for your great comments!

I have to admit when I found it I gave quite the hoot and holler!  Surprised my niece, to say the least...

This is the first Florissantia I have seen from the Naches Formation.  Congrats!

Thanks for the link.  I am becoming somewhat overcome with excitement!  :raindance:

I wish I hadn't broken the other one...

Wow when I first clicked on to this thread,  I thought before looking it was going to be “sorry this is not a flower “ sort of thing . What a surprise to see a beautiful fossil.

The broken one can it be fixed there are members here that can do repair miracles. Congratulations and maybe worthwhile looking at entertaining it to the fossil of the month completion.

Do you have photos of the broken one?

Well, this is where my inexperience with plant fossils comes in to play.  I left the broken one out there!  I honestly thought the flowers were cool, but didn't know they were very cool.  This was my first time looking for plant fossils...

If it's still there when I go back, I'll capture it!

Ahhh...that one might qualify for the July contest if you retrieve it.  ;)
