Jerri T
I’m hoping to get help identifying these fossils found over the weekend in Southern Colorado in shale-like terrain. Hard to tell from the photo, but the smaller one has the same type of pattern. Thanks!
Fossildude19
Welcome to the Forum. I think you have some layers from Septarian Concretions. Unfortunately not fossils, but cool looking rocks. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Jerri T
Interesting! Good to know. Thank you for your help identifying these. I have a few more rocks found in the same general area that look completely different. I think maybe they’re fossils, but I’ll need your help once again if you can. I will post them. (I added one here.) Thank you!
treebarkjerry
that looks like an iron concretion to me. have seen similar in southern colorado and northern new mexico.
Jerri T
Thanks, treebarkjerry! I think you’re right as it was found near the other concretions. I’m new to the fossil world and I’ve already learned a new term...concretion. It’ll help me identify these on my next adventure! Enjoy your day! abyssunder
The second specimen might be assigned to the Liesegang formations. Jerri T
Great observation! I do see what could be Liesegang rings/bands. It’s a very high possibility, and I’ll research these more to compare. Thank you for posting, abyssunder.
