FranzBernhard
Hello, I would like to ask for opinions about this 5 mm "tall" gastropod. Its from the Langhian - Miocene (15 Ma old) "Florianer Schichten" of the Styrian Basin in western Styria, Austria (St. Josef, site Fuggaberg-3). Other molluscs at this site are Granulolabium, Terebralia, Anadara, Acanthocardia, tellinid bivalves, oysters, naticids, buccinids etc. Many thanks for your help! ricardo
Hello Franz, It looks like Ringicula ventricosa (G.B.Sowerby, 1824). Greetings, Ricardo
FranzBernhard
Thanks so much @ricardo! Ringicula it is. There is already mentioned a Ringicula buccinea from this area in a paper from 1900... Many thanks! Franz Bernhard

ricardo
Hello Franz. I also have Ringicula buccinia from Portuguese Pliocene and Miocene locations, but that one seems to have a longer length/width ratio like some pictures from R. venticosa. Anyway, as there is always a lot of intraspecific variation when looking at the shapes of the shells. Some one in WNHM could give an correct answer for sure.
