Please help identify this partial tooth found at Cherry Grove Beach in North Myrtle Beach, SC. This was originally passed off as a Squalicorax, but after further review, it seems heavier and the part of the root that is complete seems different. Teeth may be posterior. Can you put up pics of the tooth by itself. Both sides and closer up in focus. Read some of the pinned topics on how to get your items I.D.'d.

I am torn on this tooth. There are Cretaceous, Pliocene and Pleistocene fossils at thislocation.

Hi Don,

I think it's a C. megalodon posterior.  The root is too thick for a Squalocorax.  It's too big overall and the crown would be more slender toward the tip if it were a great white.

Squalicorax pristodontus. I think his side view is at an angle that makes it look much thicker than it really is.

I agree with Jess that it doesn't look like a great white.  I keep going back and forth between a meg posterior tooth and a crow shark (Squalicorax) tooth.  My initial impression was Squalicorax like Eric.

At least I am not the only person who flip flopped between squali and a meg posterior. Though I lean more towards the meg.

Thanks guys.

Thanks all. Clearly, the other portion of this tooth would help. It’s definitely just enough different than my other squali’s that I had to ask.
