Monica
Hi everyone! I found this piece yesterday at my new spot along Etobicoke Creek here in Mississauga, Ontario (Georgian Bay Formation, Upper Ordovician). It's a bryozoan of some sort with some crinoid stems on it, along with an imprint that I think is either a Cruziana ichnofossil or a weathered crinoid stem imprint - what do you all think? I've boxed the imprint in red. Thanks in advance! minnbuckeye
Interesting piece, Monica. I am of the crinoid thought process. My opinion is there is too much symmetry to be Cruziana. This picture of Cruziana shows what I mean: From Wikipedia
digit
Yup. My thoughts as well. Of course, I must preface that with mentioning that neither cruziana nor crinoids are found in Florida (our surface geology doesn't go back even a fraction of the necessary age). The symmetry seemed much too consistent with the lines aligning on either side too perfectly to be cruziana. Mike's photo above is much more what I'd expect from the scurry of little feet. Cool fossil association. Cheers. -Ken
Fossildude19
What is the size of the imprint, Monica? Can we get a straight on shot of the imprint? 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Tidgy's Dad
I would also lean towards crinoid. 1 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
Monica
Hi guys - thanks for your input! Tim @Fossildude19 - here is another picture of the imprint: Re: size - it's about 3 cm long and 0.5 cm wide.
Tidgy's Dad
Hmmm. I have to say it doesn't look very much like a crinoid in the new piccie. 2 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.

With this, I would lean towards a crinoid imprint as well - measurements are well within crinoid range. 2 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Monica
First of all, a big thank-you to everyone who has looked in and given their thoughts re: the identity of this unknown item - I really do appreciate it!!! I was doing a little internet research and am wondering if rather than Cruziana (furrowing behaviour), could this be a Diplichnites (walking/striding behaviour)? Or, of course, it might still be a crinoid imprint! The reason why I'm still looking into things is because the specimen in question appears to be raised in the centre (see photos below) which is a bit odd. However, perhaps this raised area can be attributed somehow to the underlying bryozoan? Here are a few more photos of the item... The first two photos show what the imprint/trace looks like from the side. The red arrows indicate where the indentations/"tracks" are - notice that the imprint/trace is raised in the centre: This is just another photo of the imprint/trace with my thumb/hand for scale:
