Diplomystus prep

Hi all,

I recently acquired this large Diplomystus fish from holdinghistory, not cleaned any of this materiel before so it’s been a bit of a steep learning curve, still lots to do but Im enjoying cleaning this.

Hi Neil.  Sorry I didnt help you out on the PM.  Been going through a ruff time.   Id say your doing a great job on your first fish.  also, the more you do the better you are going to get at prepping these things.  The only tips I can give you is for the fins.  Try and follow out the 'leading edges' and then attack what i call the 'field'.  Also, on your diplo, its very hard to see the start of the fin bones for the anal fin?  Good luck

Thanks, hope things get better for you soon, I’ve not looked for the anal fin yet, the bottom section looks slightly blown out so I’ve left that till last. Thanks for the tips on the fins, makes a lot of sense to do it that way.

Looking good. The anal fin usually starts roughly below where the dorsal fin ends.

Thanks, I’ve got ken mannion pens, air abrasive with bicarbonate soda and some hand tools.
