Hi Everyone,

As I am going through my bat with poison ivy I am taking the time to go through some findings. I have to pieces I have no idea about. Both found NSR. Any help is appreciated.

1st looks like ?turtle shell to me and the 2nd looks like an artiodactyl (possibly deer) astralagus or ankle bone

  • I found this Informative 1

I’m a little less certain of the turtle bone, but that seems like a reasonable choice; but that is definitely an astralagus bone.

Researching one of my own pieces last night, I see a sample of your second photo in Hulbert’s Fossil Vertebrates of Florida p. 249 (B).

Thanks for the responses. I thought it might be turtle. @RescueMJ Can you say what it is listed as? I do not have the book and no luck on the web. Thanks

It is an astralagus bone exactly like the above two experts stated. Ruminant animal, pediomeryx hamiltoni.  Check it out on the web.
