Lake Michigan rock like nut or walnut

Found this rock on the shore of Lake Michigan near the beach canal entry to Lake Macatawa. Looks like the inside of a walnut. Thanks

Concretion. This look seems to be associated with layers shell fossils sometimes.

Looks to be a concretion to me also. Probably it has a high level of iron in its composition.

Thanks, as it is, it broke in two on the way home this week, but it didn't have any other pieces.
