Vernalequinox
My 8 year old daughter found this itty bitty jawbone while sifting at Big Brook in Monmouth County, NJ. It measures a little over a centimeter and includes the tiniest of teeth! Can anyone help me identify it? My first guess based on research is the marsupial pediomys, but I don't have much experience. Thank you for any insight!

Trevor
Not sure what this is. I believe it is modern. Nonetheless, I am interested to hear other's thoughts. 1 : )
Vernalequinox
Oh, and the bone is not wet in the picture. It is jet black and shiny.
siteseer
1 hour ago, old bones said: or maybe shrew. Yes, I think it's a shrew jaw too - a modern one. Jess
old bones
The incisor is broken on this one, but you can compare to the rest of it. This is a Pleistocene specimen.
